L/100km = 282.481 ÷ MPG (UK)
Why the inverse matters
Doubling MPG halves fuel use; but at high MPG, further gains barely move the L/100km needle. That's why fuel-economy regulators outside the US prefer the linear L/100km — it tracks pump cost directly.
